Programme and course list

The FBS is currently offering a university-level Programme in Business Studies. The programme is accredited by the Council of the Republic of Slovenia for Higher Education; thus a diploma from the FBS has legal standing. The programme of study takes three years (six semesters); a successful completion of 180 ECTS credit points is required for graduation. The programme is carried out as a full-time study.

  • The Programme is conceived according to the rules of the Bologna Declaration and is comparable internationally with counterpart programmes offered by high-ranking faculties in other countries of the European Union, such as the Università commerciale Luigi Bocconi in Milano and the Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien (Vienna University of Economics and Business).
  • The number of courses of study is relatively small, as this promotes an integrated and thorough acquisition of knowledge in the field or profession and thus assures the competitivenes of the graduates in the low-structured labor market in Slovenia.
  • The educational process, i.e. the contact hours in each course (lectures, recitations, seminars), is flexibile, as some of the material in each course is taught by guest instructors/visiting professors from other universities. Each course is completed by the end of the semester
  • The programme of study includes a catholic identity course, which systematically covers the christian religion, philosophical anthropology and ethics.
  • Elective courses are offered mostly in the last semesters of the programme.

After the successfully completed programme of study, the graduate will be conferred the degree of diplomirani ekonomist (UN) / diplomirana ekonomistka (UN) (Bachelor of Economics (UN)). The university-level programme in Business Sciences is the starting point for the beginning of a professional career or the continuation of study in a graduate programme at various institutions in Slovenia or abroad.

Aims and compentences of the programme

  • The programme of study enables its graduates to continue in the graduate masters programme (MBA) of the FBS in three anticipated specializations (companies, financial institutions and public non-profit sector) or in graduate programmes at other institutions of higher learning with faculties offering similar programmes.
  • The programme enables its graduates to find direct employment in all organizations in the private, public and non-profit sector, which includes businesses, institutions, government agencies, banks and insurance companies.
  • Graduates have the potential to pursue their professional and scientific careers in leadership positions at for-profit and non-profit organizations as well as government agencies. They can, for example, among many possible avenues of fruitful employment, fulfill their potential as analysts and advisors at consulting companies, as internal supervisors and tax advisors for small family-owned businesses (where the owner needs to have the knowledge for running a small business and controlling the risks associated with it), as economic researchers and analysts for banks, public administration agencies, or research institutes. They may also pursue similar work in organizations in other EU member countries, as the intended comparability of this programme with other programmes of study will result in graduates whose knowledge will be competitive with that of graduates of similar programmes at other institutions of higher education in other EU member countries.
